During Book Week our teacher talked to us about Dr Ben Carson, a world famous neuro-surgeon. He grew up in a poor home in America. Ben's mother always thought that her sons were smart so she encouraged them to read books, learn their times tables, choose television programmes carefully and to always trust in God to help them.
The story of Dr Carson's childhood and his early success as a brain surgeon has been turned into an inspirational movie. It's worth seeing!
We have just finished watching the movie and here is what we have learnt from it.
LG - I loved the movie. It was interesting because it was a true story of someone who has saved many lives.
JC - I liked how Ben's mother told him that his brain was smart. She was the one who taught him that he had the power to become successful.
KL - I think Ben is able to do surgeries and be successful because he prays every day and knows that God is always with him.
ST - Ben's mother always encouraged him. She told Ben that he could smarter if he used "his smartness". That was her special way to say 'brain'.
SF - I liked how Ben had a strong faith in God.
UM - The movie showed us that it's important to choose the books we read and the television progammes we watch carefully. If we watch the read and watch the right things we can become smarter.
KL - Dr Carson's story teaches us that we can get smarter by listening to other people, including parents, teachers and other wise adults.
Wow, we've been busy talking about Dr Ben Carson. When I watched the movie here on my computer I was in tears because when I grow up I want to be a doctor and believe in myself just like Dr Ben Carson did. I'm still sobbing.

You have a wonderful ambition JT. To achieve it you will have to study hard and focus on your goal. Remember too, that doctors need to show care and concern for their patients. Dr Carson asked God to help him be a compassionate person. Miss B
You've really helped me Miss B. Thank you for also reminding me to ask God to help me too. You've been a good teacher to me. You are just like my mother - caring and nice. JT
