Waitangi Day

Yesterday Miss B showed us a powerpoint and explained the history of Waitangi day.  We know lots more about it now!  Did you know that more than 500 Maori signed the treaty and that 13 of them were women?  Did you know that Waitangi means 'weeping waters'?  Today we wrote about New Zealand's special day.

Waitangi Day is a special holiday in New Zealand.  It is celebrated on the 6th of February every year.  We celebrate it because of the treaty signed by the Maori and pakeha in 1840.  People celebrate by doing kapahaka, singing the National Anthem and doing performances.
