Coral Art

While discussing the story of Pania of the Reef we realised that we needed to learn more about coral.  We found out that coral may look like plants but they are in fact tiny marine organisms (just a few milimetres in length) that feed on tiny fish and plankton.  Most coral need a lot of sunlight to survive and so they are found in shallow water.  They also like warmth so are found in tropical areas.  There are many kinds of coral.  Some look like flowers, others resemble fans while we saw a picture of some coral that looked like our brain!  That was crazy!

Our teacher told us that we could paint some coral pictures.  She showed us some new painting techniques and asked us to try them out in our paintings.  We learned how to shade using cross-hatching and used pointalism when painting the water.  We hope you like our first experiment with our new painting techniques.

  1. I like KL's artwork because it looks like a butterfly.
